Aviva Charity Bike ride 2020 · 14 July 2020 ·

Grief Encounter aims to relieve the emotional distress of bereaved children, young people and their families. We help by developing and promoting resources and by raising public awareness of bereavement issues for children. No-one can wave a magic wand but Grief Encounter can help the journey.

Story

So the great annual Aviva cycle ride is back on.

It started with a sponsored cycle ride from the Aviva office in Sheffield to the one in York in 2015.

Each year we have been joined by more and more people from Aviva offices around the UK and the distances and the challenges have increased.

In 2017 we cycled to Cleethorpes, and from 2018 the rides got even longer over the space of a few days. Fair to say those were a bit more challenging for me, last year being from Perth, so I joined the team on the last leg of their journey, from York to Sheffield.

This year we challenged ourselves to cycling 400 miles from Land's End to Sheffield over 4 days. My aim was to join the team on their last leg again, from Birmingham to Sheffield.

Unfortunately, events have overtaken us, so the ride had to be adapted to the current circumstances.

With the partial lifting of restrictions, and the team's drive to take part in a challenge to raise money for Grief Encounter we have come up with plan B!

We will cycle the equivalent route in length and elevation around Sheffield over the same number of days in pairs, while observing "social distancing".

My route will consist on four laps around Sheffield and into the Peak District, which will cover the same distance and elevation as the original route from Birmingham.

Wish us luck! And sponsor us if you can...Thank you so much!
