Raising money for Grief Encounter

Grief Encounter aims to relieve the emotional distress of bereaved children, young people and their families. We help by developing and promoting resources and by raising public awareness of bereavement issues for children. No-one can wave a magic wand but Grief Encounter can help the journey.

Story

It started with a sponsored cycle ride from the Aviva office in Sheffield to the one in York in 2015.

Each year we have been joined by more and more people from Aviva offices around the UK and the distances and the challenges have increased.

in 2018 We cycled to the office in Norwich over two days and last year from the office in Perth the Sheffield. 360 miles over 4 days.

This year we challenged ourselves to cycling 400 miles from Land's End to Sheffield over 4 days.

Unfortunately, events have overtaken us, and following government guidance we decided to postpone the ride pending further developments and advice.

With the partial lifting of restrictions, and the team's drive to take part in a challenge to raise money for Grief Encounter we have come up with plan B!

We will cycle the equivalent route in length and elevation around Sheffield over the same number of days in pairs, while observing "social distancing". So the great annual Aviva cycle ride is back on!

Our daily routes will be as follows:

Day 1 https://www.komoot.com/tour/212031971

Day 2 https://www.komoot.com/tour/190806926

Day 3 https://www.komoot.com/tour/190799621

Day 4 https://www.komoot.com/tour/190980657

Day5 https://www.komoot.com/tour/190737061

We are doing this to raise money for the charity Grief Encounter who support families in times of bereavement with days out and counselling.

Last year we and our supporters raised £3500.00 which was matched by Aviva and this year we're hoping to smash our target again.

Participants this year are: David Bryan, Joe Williams, Richard Lewis, Phil Ward, Christian Knight, Paul Hoyland, Damien Roberts, Tony Kelly, Paz Fontenla, Robert Green, Anthony Kiernan, Julian Heslam
