Walk A Mile 2022
Campaign by Swindon Carers Centre (RCN 1061116)
I think people need to know about the work unpaid carers do. They need to wear their shoes for a day, to do the non-stop running around needed to make sure the people we look after are happy, safe and cared for. -Ana, 29.

Story

So the wonderful staff of Pebley have decided to take on a challenge.

Not just walking a mile, But a few more up and down Snowdon.

Laura, Lloyd, Emerson, Mark, Martyn, Arron, Ryan and Tom shall be braving the climb and the elements to raise money for Swindon Carers, If you would like to show your support please feel free to donate. Much Love Pebley Plodders.

Caring is something that affects everyone. Three in 5 people will become an unpaid carer at some point in their lives. If you are not caring for someone, it is likely that you know a family member, friend or colleague who is.

The mission of Swindon Carers Centre (SCC) is to improve the well-being of people with caring responsibilities in and around Swindon, creating a community where carers are recognised, valued and supported. It is part of the Carers Trust Network, and was established to provide help and support to the 21,000 carers in Swindon. SCC has a team of professionals and trained volunteers, who provide a wide range of support and services to carers of all ages: • Assessing carers’ needs on an individual basis and draw up support plans to reduce the impact of caring on their lives. This includes young carers aged between 5 and 18 • Providing breaks – a few hours of respite for carers and families • Running a range of self-help groups for carers, giving them the opportunity to meet with other carers and share information and advice • Working in partnership with schools to support young carers to fulfill their potential • Offering training courses to groups of carers based on their needs • Delivering an Emergency Card scheme to offer carers peace of mind • Running a Welfare and Benefits Advice service to support carers (and the people they care for) who are facing financial difficulties and may be eligible for welfare benefits but are not claiming them. Benefits Advisors assess carers’ eligibility for benefits based on their individual circumstances and needs.
