Story

Hi all and thanks for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.

I am about to embark on what a lot of cycling folk regard as being the "Daddy" of all the Sportive Challenges - the Fred Whitton -  and I am doing this for both the Help for Heroes and Macmillan charities. Being a former soldier myself and knowing what it's like to lose someone close, I want to raise as much as I can for the H4H charity and the Macmillan one is the registered charity for the event.

To give you some idea about the challenge here it is:

112 miles over the Lake District peaks taking in all of the passes including Kirkstone, Honister, Newlands, Whinlatter, Hardknott and Wrynose, these last 2 being after some 90 miles of arduous roads and climbs. I've enclosed a link to the official web page (if it doesn't work then you will have to cut and paste into your browser) which shows the elevation profile to give you all an idea of how hard the climbing will be.

I am no Sean Kelly, nor Lance Armstrong,  as many within the Clifton Cycling Club that I cycle with will tell you but I was challenged to do this last year and so am taking that challenge by the horns and going to give it a good shot.

For those that think that they might be able to do this at a drop of a hat then feel free to do the route, round about the same time -early May -and you will see how difficult it is. Not only having to contend with the numerous climbs but also the unforgiving weather that makes the Lake District the place it is. I also intend to do it twice in the weeks running up to it so I can try to achieve my goal of under 8 hours which is not as easy as you might think.

So folks please donate, forward this to anyone I have missed out, even if it means them getting the email twice. To those that might donate a few bob, regardless of how small and insignificant it might be, it all adds up at the end and help me achieve my goal

So please dig deep and donate now - this page is for the Macmillan cancer charity if you would prefer to donate to the Help for Heroes Charity please click here:http://tempuri.org/tempuri.html. All donations are greatly appreciated.

Many thanks to each and every one of you for taking the time to read and donate,

For those that pay tax in the UK, can you remember to tick "GIFT AID" to get more money from the government
