We help people facing terminal illness to have the best quality of life possible

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Full distance successfully completed. Over 70 walkers took part in surprisingly benign conditions.

From 29th to 3rd May,  I'll be taking part in an 81 mile sponsored walk along the Essex Way, from Epping to Harwich, on behalf of St. Luke's Hospice, the local hospice for the population of Harrow and North Brent. The benefits to the local community of being able to offer a complete service of palliative and hospice care are widely recognised. Annual operating costs of the hospice are estimated at over £4 million – your support in raising sponsorship will enable us to ensure the continuation of this vital service. The money raised by each of our annual walks (over £100,000 last year) has funded the year's drugs bill for the hospice. This year we celebrate our 21st annual walk.  Over 75% of hospice funding must come from donations, and with gift-aided tax concessions now reduced to 25%, and local PCT support switched to GP consortia, with an uncertain outcome, the generosity of the local community and other donors has become more crucial. I hope you'll feel able to support this greatly valued local facility, and reward 3 months of intensive training and 5 days of hard walking.

The St. Luke's website at http://www.stlukes-hospice.org/ can provide you with more information about the hospice and the walk (select the Events link).
