Story
On Sunday 21st September, I will be doing a skydive to raise money for Keech Hospice Care.
Keech Hospice Care is somewhere that is very close to my family as this is where my step daughter Shannice spent 2 weeks near the end of her fight with cancer.
In November 2011, We our whole world fell apart when Shannice was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer called Ewings Sarcoma. Despite the news Shannice always kept positive and the way she dealt with such a major health problem Is something I will always admire.
As the weeks and months passed Shannice had to battle different hurdles such as operations. Blood transfusions, infections etc but within all this she never gave up the fight. Doctors would always give an estimated life expectancy for Shannice but she would always be looking so well past these dates. This was something that was not only amazing ourselves but also the most experienced doctors.
Finally on 2nd April 2013, After nearly 18months of such a brave battle. Shannice took a turn for the worst. This meant Emma (Shannice's mum) had to make such a tough decision and let Keech Hospice Care look after Shannice.
Shannice spent just over 2 weeks in Keech children's hospice. These were 2 of most comfortable weeks in the time she was diagnosed with cancer. The care and support not only Shannice received but also our whole family was amazing. They had rooms upstairs for families to stay overnight, a special swimming pool that we went in with Shannice. A games rooms, sitting area and much much more. The staff/nurses were all fantastic and you could tell how much each and every person valued the job they do.
After this time in the hospice, Shannice came home for 5 days. Shannice sadly passed away Friday 26th April 2013.
We will never forget the time Shannice spent at Keech hospice care and we will never be able to thank them enough. The fantastic care includes so much for the whole family. Obviously all the care and support received comes at a cost. Keech only receive around 25% of their yearly costs from statutory sources meaning the other 75% has to be raised independently.
This is something I am very keen to help with as they helped my family so much . I will never be able to thank them enough for what they did for us but if I can help raise money so it gives other families the same care and support we received then I will do all I can to help.
If you could donate anything towards this inspirational charity then any amount they receive will help in a major way.
