We breed and train guide dogs to give blind people freedom and mobility

Story

Peter completed the race in an excellent 4:40:36, bang on target for the training we'd done and exactly what we would have expected after the Bath half marathon.  Chuffed to bits and not too achey (or so he says) - even managed to raise a smile and his arms as he crossed the finishing line.

His support team (all 8 of us) managed to see him a total of 9 times between us around the course (miles 6,9, 11, 14, 19, 24, 25, 25 1/2 !!) - a carefully choreographed battleplan that was executed to perfection and entailed at least 2 stretches where we could run alongside and shout 'Who's the racehorse? YOU'RE the racehorse!' to keep morale going.

The bad news was that only one of us ran as after much consideration Auriol had to withdraw on medical advice.  Not an easy decision to take but definitely the right one.  It's a humongous disappointment , especially after all those cold and dark training runs in the winter, but she hopes to run next year and has deferred her place till 2007.  Don't worry, she won't be asking you to sponsor her again!

Why Peter is running for Guide Dogs

GDBA provide each dog with 2 years of world class training in order that they can act as a second pair of eyes so that blind people can lead a full and independent life. But it's expensive to train the dogs, so we need your help.

Please give as much as you can!

Many, many thanks for your support.
