Story

Hi All,

Thanks for visiting my justgiving page. I’m planning on raising a minimum of £2,000 in support of Prostate Cancer UK by
competing in the London Marathon this year.

This will be my second London Marathon having ran last year. I was fortunate to raise approx. £9,000 last year for Prostate Cancer UK, I don't expect to raise anywhere near that amount again as friends, family & work colleagues were so very kind last year and really pushed the boat out. But with the help of you all I will try to exceed the target as I did last year.

I believe this charity is hugely important and any help we can give will be very worthwhile, it will certainly be worth the pain, agony (& boredom) of all the wet, cold, dark runs. I  ran over 500km since Christmas in training.

I’m pleased to say it is now over and I completed it in a respectable time of 4hr25. I was hoping to beat the 4hrs, but the heat of the day got to me and just tired me out. I was however really pleased just to cross the line and collect my medal.

I have now retired my running shoes for anything over 5k, I’m keeping it short and simple from now on.

This time 2yrs ago I was only running a few 5k parkruns with my son Ollie and never dreamt 2yrs on I would have completed 2 marathons and raised nearly £15,000 for Prostate Cancer Uk. I am very proud of what I have accomplished and just shows if you put your mind to it, you can achieve almost anything.

My story was that I lost my Dad to Cancer in 2009, with Prostate Cancer being the major cause. Dad was 74 when he passed away which really isn’t that old and he should have had a lot more years in him. I was not that aware of Prostate Cancer at the time, but now I’m getting that bit older and have friends who are dealing with the situation I want to do this run to try to raise as much money and awareness as I can.

10,000 men die each year of Prostate Cancer with most men unaware of the disease. Tests are unreliable and research is badly underfunded, so we need to change this urgently.

Your contribution will make a huge difference and keep me focused on training and on the day.

Thank you very much.
