Story
It was a fantastic achievement when the school secured the capital funding for the new build, and a great deal of thanks needs to go to the team that pulled the bid together, both staff who gave a significant amount of their time and governors who are volunteers and give a lot to the school already.
What you may not be aware of is that with the celebration came a direct financial cost to the already stretched school budget. With capital funding provided by the local authority the school has to find 10% from its own budget. That is money we were already planning to spend on our childrens education, be it on resources, the upkeep of the building or on staff.
The 90% funding we did secure was to cover the build costs alone. This will leave us with a room with a carpet, nowhere for a teacher to sit or store their work or books. It will be devoid of desks and chairs for the children, nowhere for the children to store their PE equipment and no IT equipment such as a projector.
