Story

I need your help. In May 2019, during my GCSE exams, my Mum was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma (brain cancer). Throughout my Mum’s 20 months of treatment so far, she has been stoic and inspirational to all who know and meet her.

Throughout my Mum’s career, she has strived to support and fundraise for several different communities, advocating for their equality. From her charity board work to her role as Vice-Provost for Advancement at UCL, Mum has had a massive impact on those she has worked with and met over the years, encouraging them to work hard and work together to be a strong unit in whatever they want to achieve. In November of last year she was awarded an honourary doctorate by UCL for this work.

In April 2020, alongside a wonderful team, the UCL Dr Lori Houlihan Glioblastoma Fund was set up with Mum, raising money to go directly towards glioblastoma research at UCL. After an amazing start, with raising enough money to provide a researcher for 18 months, there is lots more that needs to be done. I want to raise as much money as possible to go into helping fund research for much needed, important treatments with an ultimate goal of finding a cure to this disease.

My Mum loves a quote and this African proverb is the perfect statement for my fundraiser over the next month: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together". Please give what you can.
