I have a neuromuscular disorder called Spinal Muscular Atrophy. The simplified version is that my muscles get weaker and weaker overtime, resulting in several other issues such as breathing difficulties, severe lack of mobility, chewing and swallowing difficulty, etc. I used to be able to use a regular keyboard and mouse or controller to a certain degree, but since the age of around 16, I lost the ability.

SpecialEffect have helped me on numerous occasions over the years. I initially got in touch with them regarding the use of an eye gaze camera, which I was hoping would replace my inability to use a regular mouse. They were so helpful and kind, allowing me to test a few different cameras by myself for a couple weeks. This allowed me to see for myself just how useful it was and eventually I made the decision to purchase my own eye gaze camera. I honestly don't know what I would do without one. It's one of the main ways I operate the computer – including playing videogames!

From things like Switch Interfaces to other, more unique solutions, SpecialEffect have helped me get the most out of my computer experience, and to this day they are still helping me and offering advice on what I could try.

This event is my way of trying to give something back and as a way of saying thank you for all their hard work.
