Story
I will be taking part in several organised running and cycling events to raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity in memory of my mum.
I have already signed up for several 5k, 10k half and even a marathon, but I won't be stopping there.
Last year 26/2/17, 10 days after my mum's 57th birthday my mum lost her battle to a brain tumour, yet I remember the day my mum passed away like it was yesterday.
26.2.17 My mum passed away from a Brain Tumour - Cerebral Lymphoma
My mum survived breast cancer at the age of 40 and at the age of 50 my mum survived non Hodgkins lymphoma.
Unfortunately we had no idea at the age of 57 that she was suffering with a brain tumour. Apart from memory loss my mum showed no other signs or symptoms.
My mum was rushed into hospital on Valentine's day with excess fluid on the brain, the doctors put a drain in and did several tests. My mum spent her birthday in the hospital and we had a great day with presents, cards, chocolates and cake. The doctors did several scans and tests but when they did the mri the doctors noticed a huge mass.
After taking a biopsy my mum was put into a drug induced coma, the next day the doctors took away the sedation but my mum had fallen into a deep coma.
On the 26th February we had to make the toughest decision ever. We had to switch the machines off as the tumour had grown so big and along with the swelling there was no other option but to let my mum rest in peace.
I miss my mum dearly, but cancer doesn't care.
Cancer doesn't care about age, race or status.
Running has helped me in a big way, it has helped me through this extremely tough time.
I want to try raise as much money as I can to help others, to help with research to stop this horrible disease, to stop cancer, to stop people suffering from cancer and the family and friends of those affected.
We can beat this.
Sheena xx
