Story
So...... why this crazy fundraising challenge??
My son Jonathan will be heading off to University in September & I know that I will definitely have empty nest syndrome. Planning an adventure for October will be a huge distraction! Trekking across the Great Wall of China has always been on my bucket list & I joked to Debbie (fund raising manager at BHC) about it. Little did I know that she would go ahead & organise a 10 day Trek!!
I have lived in Dorset for 10 years & during that time, myself & 3 other family members have benefited from care at Bournemouth Hospital. My daughter Lois was referred to the eye dept when she was 5 & underwent 18 months of treatment for a cyst. In 2011 I suffered a complicated fracture of my right femur. I am still looked after by Orthopedics & Rheumatology for my ongoing treatment of Osteoporosis. Last year my mum suffered a heart attack & was diagnosed with Coronary Heart Disease. She has undergone 2 lots of surgery and has another one scheduled for May. The cardiac dept have been fantastic. Finally my dear dad is about to have a big overhaul! People who know him see how bad his mobility is and he is due to have a full hip replacement very soon.
Finally I have seen friends undergo treatment for cancer & witnessed first hand the amazing work our NHS & Bournemouth Hospital do. I have to raise just over £3000 which is a lot but everyone knows I like a challenge! All that remains is to get fit but living in Purbeck shouldn't be too difficult...... I just need to get my walking boots on!
Whatever you can donate I will be extremely grateful for and I will keep you updated with my training, fundraising & of course how the trek goes!
