We provide a lifetime of care and support to the UK Armed Forces and their families

Story

Ray is a 96 year old Army veteran, who is a resident at Pembroke House - the care and nursing home owned and managed by the Royal Naval Benevolent Trust in Gillingham, Kent.

At 18 years old, Ray was called into service and in the D-Day operation. Beginning his journey at Arromanche, Ray worked tirelessly travelling through France, Belgium, Holland and Germany during the war, which years later would be recognised with him receiving the Legion of Honour.

The Poppy Appeal is very important to Ray as he recognises the vital work they perform in ensuring ex-service people are given the support they need.

He expressed that he has seen many service people come out of conflict, changed by what they have seen and feels the support is needed, as "they would have done the same for us".

Ray is looking to raise £400 this year for the Poppy Appeal, but due to the current restrictions on visitors to his home, he will not be able to sell to his usual crowd. We are hoping that this online collection will raise the money that Ray so proudly collects every year for the Royal British Legion, and would be very grateful if you could make a donation.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
