On Saturday 14th August, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti at 08:29 (local time), leaving 1,200 dead so far and 2,000 injured. At least 496 homes have been damaged and over 1,000 are in need of tents or temporary shelter. In addition, a tropical depression is heading towards the island, which may cause further damage and make recovery efforts even more challenging.
CARE teams have begun distributing core relief items including tents and water, but many of the areas impacted are logistically difficult to reach so the full extent of the damage is unknown yet.
Emergency aid is absolutely necessary to save lives here and in dozens of other countries in crisis. Every penny will go to CARE's Emergency Response Fund- a dedicated fund, restricted solely for emergency response purposes within CARE International.
