Story

THEY THINK IT'S ALL OVER.....IT IS NOW!

After 1 hour and 14 minutes of hot sunshine, uneven surfaces, people dodging and achy joints and muscles, I managed to complete the Hampton Court 10k run.

I can't say that I found it easy, and I can't really say that I enjoyed it, perhaps next time I will do a bit more training!!! Each time my body said 'stop' my brain kicked in and reminded me of all the support and sponsorship I have received. That (as well as making my Mum & Dad proud) was my motivation, so THANK YOU all for being so generous.

It's been 48 hours since the run, the aches are disappearing, and I'm beginning to wonder if I could do it all again, to improve my time......watch this space!

UPDATE.....Saturday 6th September 2008

3 weeks and 1 day to go!!! Training is going well, but I'm not sure that I've reached the enjoyment part yet!
It's hard work, but the sense of achievement and the support/sponsorship I am getting is giving me the determination to keep on running :o)

Thanks for all of your sponsorship x x x

UPDATE....Tuesday 16th June 2008.

One down, one to go!

I did it! I completed the London to Brighton bike ride in one piece :o)

Having had two days to recover from the pain of the hills I can look back and say that I quite enjoyed the day! BUT, if I had been asked on Sunday evening when I was next going to get on my bike, I would have said something along the lines of….’if you ever see me going near a bike again, you have my permission to shoot me!’.

I was allocated an 08:30 start time, and so arrived at Clapham Common fresh and raring to go. The weather was lovely, not a cloud in the sky, but not too hot. The whole day was a fantastic spectacle of sights and sounds, all kinds of bikes, amusing costumes, crunching gears, whistles blowing, cheers of encouragement, elite riders and complete amateurs. The atmosphere was quite unique, due to the enormous number of cyclists (27,000).

The toughest parts of the ride were without a doubt the hills. I, along with many others, had to push my bike up most of them! Ditchling Beacon, the biggest and final hill, was almost impossible, after completing 50 miles it was a struggle even to walk up it! The feeling at the top was amazing though, such a relief to know that there were less than 5 miles to the finish, and that it was all downhill from there. The descent into Brighton was exhilarating!

It was a long, tiring day, but in reflection I can say that the highs far outweighed the lows (I think!) and most importantly I have been able to raise a huge amount of money for Cancer Research UK.

Thank you so much for sponsoring me, without your support I could have quite easily given up half way!

…..Now I need to start training for the 10k run in September

ORIGINAL MESSAGE:

Hello!

I will be doing the ‘London to Brighton Bike Ride’ on Sunday 15th June ’08 and the ‘10k Run for Cancer Research UK’ at Hampton Court Palace on 28th September ’08.

The London to Brighton Bike Ride (54 miles) is being organised by The British Heart Foundation, but as my Mum is having chemotherapy at the moment, I have decided to collect sponsorship independently, for Cancer Research UK.

Entry to the bike ride has closed now, but if anyone fancies doing the 10k run, you can enter at http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/10k/venues/hamptoncourt08/
The more the merrier :o)

Thanks so much for visiting my fundraising page, your support is really appreciated...every little helps!

Rebecca
