Ukraine has faced almost eight years of conflict. With recent events, we want to be there for everyone who needs us

Story

More than 12 months of the Ukraine conflict: unimaginable toll on civilians

It's been one year since Russia began the illegal and genocidal war on Ukraine, and the level of death, destruction, and suffering inflicted on civilians is beyond comprehension.

No one in Ukraine is left unscathed by the ongoing conflict. Within the first six destructive months, 13 million people have been forced to leave their homes. Critical infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed. An estimated 18 million people will need humanitarian aid, and the Ukrainian Ministry of Health estimate that 15 million people will require psychosocial support.

Hundreds of thousands of people lack food, water, heat, electricity, and medical care. Civilians in Ukraine urgently need respite from violence and humanitarian aid.

The Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal has reached more than 5 million people with life-saving aid, within Ukraine and neighbouring countries. Our response grows daily - each hour that passes has a terrible human cost. Our network of incredible staff and volunteers means we are uniquely placed to reach people in fearful, uncertain times. But it’s the generosity of our supporters that enables our work to happen quickly and efficiently. We rely on your support to keep us going.

We held a highly successful and acclaimed  Concert for Ukraine in Luppitt Village hall on Saturday November 12th with a range of local musicians and a powerful Ceilidh-Folk-Rock Band --The Walnuts from the South East, who went down a storm. By the end, the whole 140+ strong audience were out of their seats and strutting their stuff as The Walnuts rocked on!

The first half featured Ukrainian mezzo-soprano  Iryna Ilnytska singing Ukrainian folk songs, local artists Sue Wilson and Robin Nancarrow and Busking Duo 'Blue Sky' who have also been collecting money for the appeal with a series of busks in East Devon.

The fundraising continues with after event publicity on the way through various media outlets, and David and Roger 'Blue Sky' will continue to raise money for the charity for as long as their fingers function in the cold weather!
