My Auntie Carol was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer last year and following a major operation and a course of chemotherapy the doctor confirmed in February that her condition is terminal.
I did some research into this form of cancer and discovered that it is quite rare, resulting in only 5% of the approximated 155,000 cancer-related deaths in the UK every year. However unlike the other forms of cancer, the 5-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer has remained at 3% for the last 40 years!
My mum and I are taking part in Race for Life to raise money for further research into pancreatic cancer which will hopefully see an increased survival rate at long last. It is too late for my Auntie but it is not too late for others like her.
