Thank you for visiting our Race for Life sponsorship page. This will be the 4th Race for Life event Megan and I have taken part in, although this year we are attempting the 10km in memory of my Mum, who sadly lost her fight on 29 December 2009.
After the roller coaster of watching someone you love fight for their life for so long, only to sadly lose that battle, this year's race will be a tough challenge for Megan and I in many ways. Firstly, in a state of mental imbalance, I thought it would be a good idea to sign this unfit, asthmatic body up for the 10km challenge but, more than that, last June my Mum took part with us. We pushed her most of the way in her wheelchair, but she crossed the finish line on her feet. The sheer determination of that lady, who was fighting cancer at the time, is a continual inspiration to me. It was such a privilege to know her and love her.
My cousin, Stacey O'Connell, has very supportingly offered to join Megan and I this year, now Megan will have two asthmatics to get over the finish line!! As usual, Kim Wood will also be running alongside us, in memory of her Dad - this horrible disease takes so many.
Whilst I know the loss I feel will ease with time, the memories of my Mum will be with me forever. The continual research into cancer is what gave me the extra years, and extra memories, with my Mum so this event is very important to me. Please dig deep and sponsor us online - it's quick, easy and totally secure.
