Story

Thank you so much for visiting my JustGiving page, your support is greatly appreciated, I won't keep you long, but If you have few minutes, please read on and I'll bring you up to speed about this ridiculous challenge, a great cause and one amazing guy - Rob King.

Around 25 years ago I was blessed to meet my oldest friend, his family and brother Matt. Rob and I shared a typical child hood of mischief and trouble... I wish I had time to tell you...

At 16 years old though all that changed for him and his family when he was taken seriously ill. Rob was rushed to the local hospital in Northampton where doctors were bemused about his condition and struggling to work out what was wrong with him. As if by fate a single doctor had seen this case only ever once in his career in someone Robs age, and he was diagnosed with cardiomypathy (heart muscle disease) a condition he was born with that went undetected which results in heart failure.

Rob was rushed to Papworth Hospital the UK's largest specialist heart and lung hospital. His heart stopped several times along the way resulting in him requiring to be supported by various machines for months while his body and organs could all sync into some sort of normality for him to receive a heart transplant. Amazingly a donor was found and a successful heart transplant took place.

Despite also nearly losing a leg in the process Robs strength and courage throughout and after aided his amazing recovery. The specialist doctors involved had said without that, he wouldn’t have survived at all. His incredible outlook on life thereafter taught me many lessons which I will forever hold dear. He truly was blessed and he eventually got back to work, and met and married his girlfriend and best friend Jess in 2011.

Papworth Hospital Charity helps the hospital to continue to make the difference to thousands of lives every year by supporting the ground breaking work that takes place within its walls.
They help to provide the extra touches that make the hospital comfortable and welcoming. They support the provision of family accommodation so patients can have their loved ones nearby.
They can offer financial help for those experiencing extreme hardship because of their condition.

They supported my extended family and friends and will continue to do so for many other unfortunate families in the future.

On Saturday 20th July 2013 - 8 of us will be embarking on an epic 24 hr challenge to walk the three highest mountains in the UK straddling 3 countries in less than 24 hrs.

Stage 1 Of our Journey starts in Scotland at the foot of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK. Stage 2 will begin in the Lake District at Scar-Fel-Pike in England. Stage 3 is set for Snowdon in Snowdonia Wales, on the Pyg Pass should anyone wish to see us at the finish line.

We aim to raise as much money as possible, any donations would be gratefully received and going to a great charity.

Wish us luck x
