Story
Thank you for taking time to view my JustGiving website and for showing your support. I have been training for the last 12 weeks in preparation for the London Triathlon which takes place at The Docklands on 2nd August, and yes, this will include swimming nearly a mile in the Thames! Plus a 25mile bike ride followed by a 6 mile run...
Most of you know that I have run a few Marathons and Half Marathons so have a little experience with endurance running events but I have never swam or cycled competitively. In fact, I have not cycled for 15 years prior to my training and I have also been told my swimming style is more giraffe-like than Phelps-like! So as you can imagine it has been a long challenging road over the last 12 weeks.
I would like to tell you about the charity I am fundraising for; Deaf Child Worldwide(DCW) is the only UK based international development agency dedicated to enabling deaf children to overcome poverty and isolation. Every year DCW support children and their families in different countries: This year the focus is on India where there are three million deaf children. Lack of education and understanding can mean that their needs are often neglected. There is a burning need for outreach support and education for teachers and parents which will significantly improve the quality of life and future prospects for these children.
If I can raise over £2,000 then this will fund an entire outreach programme of 4 community support workers for a whole year. This will help improve the quality of life for so many deaf children and their families. If you want to find out anymore about the Development Agency then go to www.deafchildworldwide.info
