As a church, St Andrew's works in the community in many different ways; having strong links with the local schools, working with the homeless through our Nightshelter project and aiming to bring the message of God's love to all.

Story

So I did this.....

Trailwalker is the ultimate team endurance event. The challenge is to walk 100 km across the South Downs Way in under 30 hours in a team of four. In 1986, Trailwalker was opened to civilian participation for the first time, and now, 30 years later, following the move of the Queen's Gurkha Signals to the UK, the 100k event takes place with hundreds of civilians setting off from the start line.

We are part of the Brighton & Hove Churches Homeless Night Shelter Project and we run every Friday evening/Night and Saturday morning for 9 weeks through the Winter months.  Last year we ran from November 18th 2016 – January 14th 2017. Another church in Brighton & Hove took over from us until the end of March.  We at St Andrews are really proud to add that we have been one of the original churches in this project since  2011/12

We have 3 shifts to cover over the Friday and Saturday morning which include: Friday evenings (8 volunteers), Night shifts (4 volunteers) and Saturday mornings (6 volunteers.)  All of us are volunteers at St Andrews and it is totally self-funded.  Any money raised goes straight to our project in our hall.  We treat our guests to a fish & chip supper on Friday and then a good cooked breakfast on Saturday morning.  We bring friendly conversation and a kind ear and we are there to support our guests in whatever way we can.

Our aim amongst others, is to try and befriend and make it an enjoyable experience for them at the shelter.  To give them a night time sleep where they can totally relax, get fed and free from fear of being attacked.

Please help us out for next winter if you can.  It is a wonderful experience helping these vulnerable people at a particularly difficult time of the year. Any donations are gratefully received and any remainder will carry forward to next years effort.
