A number of colleagues at work are growing a beard during the month of October for Macmillan Cancer Support.  These kind of things are not usually what I would get involved in, but the fact that the charity is Macmillan has encouraged me to participate and raise some money for this charity.

For those who do not know, Macmillan Cancer Support offers support for people who have Cancer, have a relative or friend who has Cancer or for someone who is caring for someone who has Cancer.  The support that they give is absolutely incredible and truly does make a difference at a very difficult time in many people's lives.

They were a great comfort to my mother when she was dying and greatly put her at ease.

Growing a beard may not be like running a marathon or skydiving, all I am trying to do is raise a little cash for a well-deserved charity so please donate if you can.  And, while I'm not trying create a masterpiece like the one in the picture above, I'm sure I will look suitable ridiculous by the end of the month.

I have already begun this challenge, and started on 1st October.  I can tell you that I already look like a tramp and it is itchier than you can possible imagine!  God oknly knows what I will look and feel like in another couple of weeks.  But as Caroline keeps reminding me, "People with Cancer don't have the option to shave it off after a couple of weeks when they have had enough"....well said!
