We’re the UK’s leading charity for Crohn’s and Colitis. Right now, over 500,000 people in the UK are living with a lifelong disease that many people have never heard of. We’re working to improve diagnosis and treatment; to fund research and to raise awareness.

Story

A few weeks after getting married and during my final year at University I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis.  I remember being absolutely gutted (pardon the pun) because I'd seen what this disease can do.

My Dad has suffered greatly with UC, resulting in him having large sections of his bowel removed and has had periods of his life where he has been really unwell.  He drummed in to me to seek medical support if I ever showed the smallest of signs and I'm very thankful for that as my UC was diagnosed so early.

I've also seen how Crohn's & Colitis has affected others close to me and the hideous effect this disease can have.

Crohn's & Colitis UK have been fantastic and given me the confidence to be open about my illness with friends and family, with support on hand should I ever need it.

I'm fortunate that through the NHS I am looked after by some of the worlds greatest medical professionals, who regularly keep an eye on me and ensure my medication keeps me well.

So I want to give something back to help, especially with fundraising income drastically effected by the cancellation of so many mass-participation events.

Juggling life, work and children meant that I needed to find a way to exercise more at home, so last year I bought a cheap road bike and dumb trainer.  I was immediately hooked, upgrading the trainer to a smart trainer at the start of 2020 and becoming a Zwift addict.

My longest ride to date is 62 miles on a very flat route!  On the weekend of August 15th I'm going to do the full Ride London route on Zwift.  That's 107.5 miles with an elevation gain of 2,496 metres.....including going up Box Hill eleven times.  My guess is that I'm looking at around 8 hours on the bike!

It's going to be a challenge but knowing that I've got your support with me will help make the difference to get me over that finish line.

I know times are tight, but if you have a few pounds you can spare I would be very grateful if you could donate them here and help make a difference in the lives of those suffering with Crohn's and Colitis now, and in the future.
