Story

A group of coaches, club officials along with Rami's close family are organising a 45 mile charity bike ride from Exeter Saracen's Rugby Club to Dunkery Beacon on Sunday 13th September 2020, to shine a light and raise awareness of suicide, mental health and well-being.

Rami was a player, an under 13's coach and a much loved member at Exeter Saracen's who we sadly lost to suicide. Pete's Dragons have supported Rami's family, friends and young players beyond words and we hope by organising this challenging bike ride, we can give back and help to raise awareness of suicide and men's mental health.

Suicide is the biggest cause of death of middle aged men. There is not usually one overriding reason but a build up of intense emotional strain and emotional exhaustion and overwhelm. Their distress may mean that they are too scared to ask for help.

Apart from supporting people who are bereaved by suicide, Pete's Dragons work hard  to raise awareness that is important and safe to talk about suicide within communities, including sports clubs. It is clear that the links between good physical health and mental health are well recognised but as a rugby club we now know that there is so much more to be done and this event aims to connect coaches and club officials together socially, to raise much needed funds for this local charity but also to raise awareness about starting conversations around suicide.
