Story
Like many other people with teenagers who had their GCSEs and A-levels severely disrupted by Covid, we're aware of the toll that the past 18 months has taken on young people’s lives and well-being.
However, our kids are the lucky ones. They live in a loving family, are not trapped in their homes as victims of abuse, nor are they suffering with severe depression or suicidal thoughts. For many young people however, these are very real, palpable issues - in many cases made so much worse by events of the past year, which have destroyed lives and livelihoods and had a tremendously negative effect on mental health and well-being.
This is why we jumped at the opportunity to run this year’s London Marathon (postponed to 3rd October) on behalf of Relate West Surrey. Most people associate Relate with just relationship counselling, but Relate West Surrey’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) deliver nearly 3,000 hours of confidential counselling each year to children and young people aged 10-18 who desperately need their help.
If you choose to sponsor us, all money raised will go towards a bursary fund for young people aged between 10-18 years and their families on low incomes so that they do not miss out on the chance to have counselling. The funds will provide vital support and talking therapy to the most vulnerable in our area, including those suffering domestic abuse, family breakdown, bullying, self-harm and suicide. Please join us in playing a small part in helping Relate West Surrey continue their efforts to improve the lives and future outlook of a generation!
Thanks for your support and generosity!
