We use Anne Frank's Diary to empower young people to challenge hatred

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On the 11th January 2018, Mr Robert Acker Holt, Founder of Holts Gems passed away whilst on holiday with his family.

Five days from his 95th Birthday, he was an inspiration to all who knew him. His charming loving nature and quiet humour made him one of the most respected members of the jewellery trade. He was a loving and dedicated family man to his wife Dorothy, two sons Jason and Stuart and five Grandchildren. Whilst reaching a grand age, Mr Holt never grew old. He was young until the final moment.

We thank all our customers, colleagues and friends for the warmth and loyalty you showed Mr Holt over so many of his 70 years in business.

The family decided to set up a charitable project in memory of their Dad. This project reflects the huge challenges he overcame in order to make a life for himself and his family in this country. He believed in a fair and non prejudiced society and we feel the work of the Anne Frank Trust does so much to combat intolerance and hate affecting society.

We are extremely grateful to be given the opportunity to honour Robert's life by supporting a new legacy project for The Anne Frank Trust UK that will revolutionise the education tools through which they deliver the knowledge, skills and confidence our future generations need to challenge all forms of prejudice, hatred and discrimination.

We would like to ask that you all do whatever you can to help us raise £10,000 towards the creation of a new digital exhibition for schools that will be used to educate thousands of children. In memory of Robert, his name will be included on the exhibition.

The Exhibition

The Anne Frank Trust currently runs two exhibitions as a part of its core education programmes: Anne Frank: A History For Today and Anne Frank + You. Both exhibitions explore the historical events of the Holocaust against the backdrop of the life of Anne Frank - enabling visitors to grasp the human consequences of persecution and war.

Anne Frank: A History For Today is the exhibition used in schools, where young people are trained to be Peer Guides, leading their classmates and members of the community around, sharing their learning and encouraging debate about the modern context of the historical issues.

With your support, the Trust will update this exhibition with interactive digital content panels, featuring engaging mixed media. This will enable the exhibition to be more easily and regularly updated and keep contemporary content current and relevant to the local area, as well as increasing the accessibility of the programme in different settings and levels of learning.

About The Anne Frank Trust UK

The Trust is an education charity that empowers young people with the knowledge, skills and confidence to challenge all forms of prejudice and discrimination. They were established in 1991 by Dr Eva Schloss MBE, Otto Frank’s step-daughter, to fulfil his wish for an education charity to carry on Anne’s legacy of hope and humanity to new generations of young people.

The Trust’s education programmes use Anne Frank’s powerful life story and diary as their starting point. They are the only organisation in the UK licensed to use Anne Frank’s name and writing to make links with issues in contemporary society.

Together we can help combat the rising prejudice and hate affecting our society - thank you!

p.s. The photo we chose for this page sums up that when in his presence things never went as you'd expect them to, in large due to his lateral thinking, loving nature and humour. These qualities were evident at his funeral by the timely appearance of the sunshine after the rain, double rainbow and flocks of white birds followed by huge hail stones the size of large gems.
