Story
I’m fundraising for Northamptonshire Rape Crisis Centre (NRC) https://www.northamptonshirerapecrisis.co.uk, who do vital work.
Set up in 1986, Northamptonshire Rape Crisis (NRC) is an independent charity that supports people who have been sexually abused, assaulted or raped.
Please sponsor me in support of NRC. On 16 January I will attempt to virtual Everest on Alpe d’huez. “Fiendishly simple, yet brutally hard. Everesting is the most difficult climbing challenge in the world.”
The idea is simple, ride up and down the same hill repeatedly all in one go until you’ve climbed 8,848m in total. I’ll be doing this ‘virtually’ on cycling app ‘Zwift’, riding up their simulation of Alpe d’huez. I’ll have to put the same power in as if doing it in real life, but my bike won’t be moving. In some ways this is harder, given the boredom (and pain) from sitting in one position for 12 hours.
The full rules are here https://everesting.cc/the-rules/
My bike records power put into the pedals and will be connected to a turbo trainer that simulates the resistance of riding up the mountain.
The vEverest will require 8.5 climbs up Alpe and a total of 208.8km of riding. Each lap is 24.4km long and 1,036m of elevation at an average gradient of 8.5%. Each climb will likely take 50-60 minutes. Total time likely 10-12 hours.
