Land's End to Sheffield Cycle Ride · 10 July 2020 to 14 July 2020 ·

Grief Encounter aims to relieve the emotional distress of bereaved children, young people and their families. We help by developing and promoting resources and by raising public awareness of bereavement issues for children. No-one can wave a magic wand but Grief Encounter can help the journey.

Story

Those of you who know me will know I like nothing more than feeling the wind in my hair, the little I have left, as I sail down Ecclesall Road on my chopper to work.

After completing the sponsored cycle from the Aviva office in Perth all the way to the office in Sheffield last year I decided my thighs weren’t chafed enough and promptly signed up to do it again every year.

This year, in what was clearly a moment of madness (and possibly following a few drinks), we decided to go one step further and promptly agreed to cover 400 miles in 4 days, from Land’s End to Sheffield, to raise money for Grief Encounter.

Then came Covid 19, so we have had to re-plan and we will now cover the same distance (adhering to government guidelines) with the same miles and elevation as originally planned but around Sheffield, Yorkshire & Derbyshire.

Last year we raised £3,500 for the charity which provides much needed support and counselling for bereaved families, an amount which was matched by Aviva. This year we’re looking to do it all again and do even better, which is where you come in…

I’d love it if you could sponsor me and encourage your friends, family and frankly, anyone else you know, to do the same. Not only will you be left with the warm glow of your charitable endeavours, but you’ll also have the opportunity to follow my progress, poke fun at my outfit, and laugh at me afterwards as I hobble around the virtual office looking like John Wayne.

Now who wouldn’t want that? Go on, be a devil; chuck a fiver in or more if you're feeling generous ;-)
