The reason why I choose this charity is because it's very close to home. On Halloween last year 2016 my youngest lad Joel was rushed to the John Radcliff hospital from Swindon's GWH with pressure on the brain, where he had an emergency drain put in to releive the pressure. On the Tuesday he had an MRI where to every parents nightmare a tumour was found. About the size of a tangerine, the surgeon said, he went through all the possible things that could happen with the procedure and the dangers to remove it. The surgury was done on the Wednesday 2nd November 2016 by Dr Jay who is one of the top surgeons in child tumours. As far as he could tell he had removed all of the tumour. The tumour went off for testing at the JR and some was sent to Great Ormound street hospital in London. We had a long 7-10 days of waiting for the results to come back. Then we got the call saying they where in and for his mum and myself to come to the JR to discuss the results. It was not what we were hoping in any shape or form. It was cancerous! Well our hearts just sank, the tumour was a Mellablastoma (excuse spelling). Having lots of meetings with different Doctors for his next coarse of treatment which was 6 weeks of radiophopy which started in December 2016 and finished early February 2017. The down side of Radio is his hair started to fall out. So me being dad said I'll shave it. For which as I did, I started to get a lump in the throat. Hence why I thought that it's only fair that I have mine shaved!! So in January 2017 I had mine done at work where we was having a local come in (guest chef) night and cook it was ticket only and the proceeds went to my charity Oscar's Pdbt.

Next week Joel will be staring his chemo (fingers crossed) I know you all like to wish him luck
