Ben is five. Every week, Ben and Daddy visit Mummy in hospital. Mummy is very sick and won't ever come home.
During lockdown, Ben swapped his school uniform for his pyjamas. Daddy says its fun and more important that Ben has food in his tummy than lots of clothes.
Now school is back, Ben is still wearing his summer jacket and shoes.
1 in 4 children in Scotland are living in poverty. Many families have been plunged into unforeseen hardship due to COVID-19. And its impacting children's education.
"If it's wet, the children still go out and eat and we still do PE outside. But, parents cant afford to properly equip their children. There's still summer shoes, no waterproofs; no appropriate clothing to keep them warm and dry.
Parents are reluctant to send children to school on wet days because they cant afford to provide a change of clothing. So, now were seeing absence." Headteacher
