Story

Regain - "helping British sports tetraplegics lead independent and fulfilling lives" - And this is exactly what they did for my sister and Jake's cousin, Kylie Grimes MBE.

Following a diving accident in 2006 Kylie knew getting back into sport was the only way she was going to cope with her life changing injury.  She was put in touch with Regain and within just three years of her spinal injury she returned to competitive sport and together we cycled 450km, from Vietnam to Cambodia.  Regain has been an incredible support over the years, helping Kylie to fund equipment, such as road bikes and rugby wheelchairs and also just allowing us to meet some awesome and supportive people, (who are now life long friends!) along the way.  Since our first cycle trip in Vietnam we have also cycled 500km across South Africa, all raising money for Regain.  Having all been a part of Kylie's rehabilitation, our family are passionate to help others who have been affected by spinal injury do the same and continue to undertake sponsored rides around the world for Regain.  Sadly Kylie won't be joining us on this one as she has a busy year with the GB Wheelchair Rugby team, but I have persuaded our cousin, Jake, to get involved!!  So thank you for any donation you can make, big or small, it is so greatly appreciated.  And after the year Kylie has had we intend to make her proud and smash all 250km's of this ride!!

Regain The Trust for Sports Tetraplegics, was established in 1988 and became a registered charity and company in 1993. Regain is the only charity in the UK that is solely dedicated to improving the independence of those who have become tetraplegic as a result of a sporting or recreational accident. Having lost the use their limbs, tetraplegics need help to perform many of the most mundane day-to-day tasks. Mobility is the major issue for many and without the use of appropriate wheelchairs and adapted vehicles, tetraplegics can become trapped and isolated in their own homes. Regain supports its beneficiaries through a grants programme, where tetraplegics can apply to Regain to help fund specialist equipment to get them back to being active once again. This can range from wheelchairs to hand bikes. Regain has also funded some tetraplegics to gain qualifications that have led onto employment.
