Story

Hello!

Hi there! Here is an update - it's March 2022 and the Marathon des Sables is now just four weeks away. After hundreds of miles run and walked, and three ultra marathons, the end goal is in sight.

Unfortunately - I have managed to injure myself during the Pilgrim's Challenge - 66 miles over a weekend. Either ligament or nerve damage has prevented me from running or walking so my final training preparation have gone out the window HOWEVER! I am going to plod on (probably literally!).

With offline contributions we've managed to get over the £8000 target, so I'm now pushing on to £10,000 - why not?!

Here is the October 2021 update for the fundraising activities for Hope for Children.

This Summer Rosie race the 100km from Lewknor to Avebury as part of the Race to the Stones. She managed to raise £1000 for 100k in 1 day!

The next big fundraiser is the London Mini-Marathon! 2.6 miles for school children - raising money for Hope for Children. We can all be part of Team Hope!

Completed challenges:

Brightwell Christmas Cracker - 14th to 28th December 2020

Weekend Warrior 5, 10 or 15k - completed 4th October 2020

London Marathon virtual race - running around the village on a very rainy Sunday! 4th October 2020

Race to the Stones - completed 10th July 2021

Thank you for coming to look at my page. In April 2022 I will be taking on the biggest challenge I could set myself... the Marathon des Sables.

The run is a 6 day multi-stage race in which you have to carry all your own food, equipment and water. The stages are:

Day 1 - 18 miles

Day 2 - 24 miles (The Dunes Day)

Day 3 - 19 miles

Day 4 - 53 miles (The Long Day)

Day 5 - 26.2 miles (The Marathon Stage)

Day 6 - 4.8 miles

And yes, I will struggle to explain to you just why I really want to do this crazy thing!

But there is one really straight forward reason to do this... and that is to raise money for a very important charity - Hope for Children. As a teacher I believe that an education is one of the key factors needed for a healthy future in which a person can contribute positively to their society.

Hope for Children is an international charity working towards a world in which every child has a happy, healthy and positive childhood.

Team Hope passionately believes they deserve it.

Almost half the world’s children live in extreme poverty. We are helping to change this by delivering education, health, livelihoods and Child Rights projects that benefit thousands of children and families each year.

Everything we do is for the benefit of today’s children and tomorrow’s parents, supporting present and future generations to achieve long-term change. We know it will take time.

I've set myself the challenge of raising £8,000 as I think that a crazy run through the desert is worth it!

A bigger incentive is probably this: £10k will keep over 175 vulnerable children in books and uniforms needed for school for a year.

                                                        175 children!

                                                           In school!

                                                          For a year!

If you can sponsor me on my crazy exploit you will have contributed to something truly worthwhile.

Watch out for the events that I'll be putting on through the year ahead... as well as:  Virtual London Marathon 2020, Chiltern Wonderland 2020 (50M), the London Marathon 2021, quite a few other races and finally... the Marathon des Sables 2022!
