Story

What am I doing?

I will be travelling to Sweden from Kent, UK on the 4th February, 2019. Landing in Sweden's capital of Stockholm I will then cross Sweden, from Stockholm to Abisko (approximately 150 miles / 240 kilometres into the Arctic Circle). During my time in Abisko, my goal is to complete a 20 mile /32 kilometre round trek of a section of The King's Trail that traverses Abisko National Park. My aim is to achieve this in a single day, on Saturday the 9th of February 2019.

February in Sweden is much colder than we typically experience in the UK (February 2018 saw temperatures as low as -28°C), with the addition of large amounts of snow adding to the challenge!

In preparation for this, I have been training since August 2018 for this journey by frequently using the gym and walking trails in the UK. I will continue to do so until I fly out to Sweden in 2019.

I will be recording the hike itself using a combination of Strava and Fitbit to track my pace and distance to verify the hike.

I’m funding the entire trip myself, ALL donations go directly to Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity!

Why Great Ormond Street Hospital?

I don't have children, but one day I hope to. I've spent time working with children in both preschools and schools and it is definitely one of the most rewarding things I have done.

The care and support Great Ormond Street Hospital provide for both children and their families is amazing. We always hope that all children will be able to grow up and flourish without impairment or sickness, unfortunately this isn't always the case. Great Ormond Street Hospital are there to help sick and disabled children to experience the best childhood possible. Every child deserves the same opportunity to be happy. And that is exactly what I want for my children in the future.
