Robert Leo Stuart Anderson was only 13 years old when he died from Angiosarcoma, a rare form of cancer. In December 2005, Robbie knew his cancer was terminal and facing his second (and last) Christmas in hospital he set up the Robbie Anderson Cancer Trust to improve the quality of life for young people spending
long periods of time on the children's cancer ward. Since his death it has been run by his family and friends in his memory.
Robbie was a very dear school friend of mine whose smile and blonde floppy hair I will never forget. He was the greatest fun to be with and drew people to him like a
magnet. He was strong, spirited, self-possessed and courageous. His
absolute unwavering courage and fortitude never faltered in public or in
private. An extremely bright and mature boy he was determined to make
every second count in the short time he had left to him. Robbie's tremendous zest for life, great sense of fun and warm
outgoing personality endeared him to everyone. His 15 month battle with
cancer undoubtedly changed him from a carefree, fun-loving 12 year old
boy, full of promise to a charismatic young man who has become a true
inspiration to all who had the privilege to know him.
I consider it an honour to run in the memory of such an amazing young man for the charity that he set up because he touched my life so much and I want to finally give something back. Since I took up running a few years ago I have always had the end goal of running a race to raise money for the Robbie Anderson Cancer Trust, on 19th October 2014 Carina (my sister) and I are finally going to achieve this goal as we run the Birmingham half marathon. Please sponsor us to help this very worthy cause.
