Story
At Southampton Hospitals Charity, we bring people together to raise life-changing funds for University Hospital Southampton – the South Coast’s leading healthcare provider. From specialist services to pioneering research, our incredible supporters enhance care, experience and outcomes for thousands of patients every year. With your help, we can create an impact that lasts for generations - Let’s transform care, together.
Since January this year, Tony, or Mr Mayes, or Mr Mayesee or Uncle Muka, or Uncle Tony has been battling Leukemia. After numerous rounds of chemotherapy he has finally had the stem cell transplant that can hopefully save and transform his life. Both Basingstoke and Southampton General have been incredible. Ward C6 in Southampton are amazing.
Across this year I have been amazed at how hard the staff work, how much they care, but also how challenging it is for the patients and their families. Southampton ward C6 has no visitations, so you can be in the hospital for weeks at a time with just your thoughts. This does have a huge impact on patient's mental health.
I am, and Waverley Preparatory School, the school we work at, are all about well-being, and I know how music, or the spoken word do wonders for someone's mental health. I would love to be able to raise enough funds to buy each room a digital radio, so even in those dark times you don't feel so alone.
So, a few of us are running the Wokingham half marathon in February, do you want to join us, or could you sponsor us?
If you are under 18 do you fancy doing the mini mile?
We want to show Tony that we adore him, we miss him, and we all know how brave he has been. We know that it has been harder that he will ever say. We also want to raise funds for ward C6.
