After completing the Great North Run last year in memory of Rebecca Watson, the challenge gets twice as hard for Team Rebecca in 2016.

Ian Watson, Ian Marshall and Rosanna Totiah on November 6 will run the NYC Marathon - 26.2 miles through Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Manhattan.

This utter madness - Ian W and Rosie's first marathon - is all to raise vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. After raising over £12,000 for the Cancer Care Centre at York Hospital last year, we'd dearly love to raise more money in Rebecca's memory for another charitable organisation who offered her invaluable support. 

Rebecca defied breast cancer for numerous years and more often than any young mother of two pre-school sons should have to. Especially throughout the two years that followed a recurrence diagnosis in November 2012, when she was pregnant with Rafael, Macmillan were an invaluable source of support and advice, not only for Rebecca, but the whole family. 

Rebecca's incredible positivity and determination meant she refused to be defined or dictated to by cancer. She only sought support when she absolutely needed it or help when she could not find the answer herself. The Macmillan team were fantastic in finding a balance between giving her space but also providing an invaluable support network.

Macmillan also offered two financial grants which were a huge help. The first was to contribute to the cost of an electric reclining chair when Rebecca left hospital after treatment for a fractured spine while heavily pregnant. The total of these two grants was £800. Ian would love to be able to repay Macmillan back ten-fold - hence our £8000 fundraising target. 

New York City was special to Rebecca and Ian. In 2008, they were married in Conservatory Gardens in Central Park - the stage for the marathon finish line in November.

Of course, we welcome all sponsorship and given the scale of the challenge, you can be assured that every penny will be hard-earned. We also want as many people to get involved and have fun with us along the way - just like last year. We are planning a range of other fundraising activities, but we'd love to hear any other suggestions you may have.
