Story
On Saturday 8th June 2013 Kobe (16 months old) was rushed to hospital. He was admitted immediately. His symtoms were vomitting, paleness, rapid breathing and near unconsciousness. The doctors quickly identified that he was in Diabetic Ketoacidosis. This is a very serious life-threatening condition, a complication of undiagnosed Type 1 Diabetes (which is completely different to the more common Type 2 Diabetes). He had to be connected to two drips and his lifesigns monitored continuously. He had blood taken every hour for the first 24 hours. Kobe nearly died that night.
After those crucial 24 hours Kobe started to improve but his life was changed forever. He now has to endure on average 10 finger pricks a day to monitor his blood glucose levels. He is attached to an insulin pump via a cannula 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. His parents have to calculate the amount of carbohydrate in everything he eats and give the equivalent amount of insulin to match it.
Kobe is not alone and we do not want him or anyone else to have to endure this condition. We want a cure. Please help us and donate to our page today!
Thank you.
