I stupidly signed up to do a 10k run (which I know isn’t a marathon but running is the worst and I would rather go to the dentist than do this). Anyway I’m doing this to raise awareness of psoriasis. If you don’t know Phil (husband) has it and it sucks. So stuff you might not know about psoriasis:
1. It’s an autoimmune disease, not a skin condition. The skin part of it is caused by skin cells losing their mind and instead of reproducing every 21-28 days, they fast forward this process and do it every 3-7 days
2. Extra skin - so what? Well imagine skin on your body that goes scaly, flakey and red raw, can be itchy as hell and/ or really painful
3. Mental health - people with psoriasis are more likely to suffer from low self esteem therefore depression and anxiety have been linked with the disease as a result
4. Arthritis - if shit wasn’t bad enough you can develop psoriatic arthritis before you’re even an OAP
5. There isn’t a cure. Psoriasis can be treated by a host of medicine from creams, to pills, to what Phil’s on, biological injections
If you’ve got to the end of all this and want to help out, I’m running for Psoriasis Association to help fund research into psoriasis.
