This is the third time I have taken part in Ride London 100, in previous years i have raised money for RUOK, which has organised RUOK days ware volunteers ask people in shopping centers or at railway stations RUOK, if they are we hand them a card with some brief information on and ask them to pass it on by asking someone else they may know the same question. if they are not have have trained listeners who can spend time with people if they want to talk confidentially. RUOK has been on existence for 4 years now and am looking to have our 5th event at Leicester Station on the 10th of October, we have also had events in Kettering and Corby in Northamptonshire as well in local shopping centers. the money raised goes to supporting these events.
the object of these events is to contact people, or their friends and family, who may be struggling with their thoughts and feelings and to give them the opportunity to be listed to, or for them to know that some one cares.
This year I am splitting the donations between RUOK and Sport at the Bradgate inpatient Mental Health Unit in Leicester. Physical activity is a positive way to improve mental health and self esteem. I can vouch for this by the positive effects I have experienced during my training for the ride and I feel it is impotent that people experiencing difficulties with their mental health, who may not be able to easily exercise in the impatient environment.
