About the European Peace Walk: On July 28, 2014, I will be one of over 100 individuals from all over the world participating in the inaugural European Peace Walk (EPW) to commemorate the 100th anniversary of World War I. The 550km journey through Europe begins in Vienna, Austria and will end in Trieste, Italy. The trail, which we will co-create as we go, crosses through 6 countries (Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Italy) will become a permanent walking route for pilgrims, activists and walkers for years to come. Organizers of the EPW invited individuals to act as ambassadors for their countries. I volunteered and was selected to be the ambassador for the United States. With this honor, I want to raise awareness for what I believe to be integral to promoting peace for the entire world: empowering women. www.peacewalk.eu

More on empowering women:
"Freedom cannot be achieved unless women have been emancipated from all forms of oppression…our endeavors must be about the liberation of the woman, the emancipation of the man and the liberty of the child." - Nelson Mandela"We are woven together by what we value. Authenticity, faith, courage, integrity, commitment and service. We believe in the power of our real life choices, knowing that mundane actions can have the most far-reaching implications. We are dedicated to sustainability and the pursuit of social and environmental change. Our lifestyle embraces the needs of the present and the legacy of the future." - Shakti Rising
"If women are healthy and educated, their families will flourish. If women are free from violence, their families will flourish. If women have a chance to work and earn as full and equal partners in society, their families will flourish. And when families flourish, communities and nations will flourish." - Hillary Clinton
"The world will be saved by the Western woman." - the Dalai Lama
"To call woman the weaker sex is a libel; it is man's injustice to woman. If by strength is meant brute strength, then, indeed, is woman less brute than man. If by strength is meant moral power, then woman is immeasurably man's superior. Has she not greater intuition, is she not more self-sacrificing, has she not greater powers of endurance, has she not greater courage? Without her, man could not be. If nonviolence is the law of our being, the future is with woman. Who can make a more effective appeal to the heart than woman?" - Gandhi
