Story
Imagine living with a lifelong condition that many people have never heard of. That’s the reality for over 500,000 people in the UK living with Crohn’s and Colitis. These conditions are debilitating and can have a profound impact on a person’s life. Luckily, in more recent years particularly, I have felt able to be more open about my condition. Especially after 2 months in hospital 10 years ago, when I didn’t accept visitors or tell anyone what was going on until quite a few weeks in. I was diagnosed at 20, it was almost a relief as I thought I was going crazy with the symptoms. Seeing a colleague roll their eyes when I said I had a tummy ache again, or a boyfriend say it’s impossible to have a tummy ache yet again was my trigger to see the doctor. My diagnosis was swift, but that’s absolutely not the case for everyone. My care has always been top notch (excepting Dr Evil and her antics) but sadly in the last couple of years I’ve not had the care I’ve desperately needed. This took a significant toll on my health but most specially on my emotional wellbeing. There have been days when I’ve thought I wasn’t going to be able to get through it … but of course we have no choice and we do keep going. That’s why I’m taking part in the My WALK IT challenge this June to support Crohn’s & Colitis UK. Crohn’s & Colitis UK is the UK’s leading charity for Crohn’s and Colitis. They work tirelessly to improve diagnosis and treatment, fund research, and raise vital awareness. By supporting me, you’ll be helping them continue their important work. I would really appreciate any donation and support you can give. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of those living with Crohn’s and Colitis. Thank you! PS - I would add that I hate asking for money, it’s been many, many years since I’ve done anything sponsored. So if you do support me, please know I won’t be coming back time and time again for more. PPS - I should also point out that I shall be walking and not running! 😎 Xx
