Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and many thanks for those of you that have already donated when I ran the Dartford Half Marathon in March.

I am now running the Royal Parks Half Marathon on 9th October 2022 for the Target Ovarian Cancer charity and I am over halfway to my new target of £1,000.

Target Ovarian Cancer is the UK’s leading ovarian cancer charity. They work to improve early diagnosis, fund life-saving research and provide much-needed support to women with ovarian cancer.
In August 2013 Ovarian Cancer took my beloved grandmother and in March this year I was further devastated when it took my best friend Sarah White. Sarah was only 46 years old and a serving member of the Metropolitan Police Service. She was much loved by her friends, colleagues but mostly by her devoted 18 year old daughter Grace, her doting parents Jane and Keith, brother James and sister in law Dawn. Sarah was diagnosed in the summer of 2020 during the pandemic and over the next 18 months went through courses of chemotherapy and other alternative treatments. For a time her loved ones felt that she may have overcome the cancer but on 22nd March 2022 she was taken.

Sarah did not once moan during her treatment, she never asked why me? She continued to work through her illness and she devoted time to informative lectures for Ovarian Cancer charities. Her only concerns when she was ill appeared to be for the people she loved who she knew she may leave behind. Hundreds of Sarah's family, friends and colleagues attended her funeral in April many of whom donated to the Target Ovarian Cancer charity that she had given time to prior to her passing. We were contacted by the charity after the funeral to let us know that the money raised would provide funding for dozens of GP's to be trained in detecting the early symptoms of Ovarian Cancer, something I know Sarah would have loved.

I credit Sarah with encouraging me in to a love of running for the past few years. Prior to 2017 I could not have imagined it was ever a hobby I would enjoy! For now though, the running does make me miss Sarah even more than I already do so this will be my last 'long fundraising run hurrah'. And I cannot think of a better cause to run it for.

I know that times are terribly hard at the moment and this is why I am grateful for any donation....every single £1 really does help this very worthy cause that means so much to me.
