Batten disease is a group of rare, progressive neurodegenerative, genetic metabolic diseases that occur in children & adults worldwide. The BDFA's Vision is to be the central point of excellence in the UK for supporting affected families funding research into a potential cure.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I wanted to draw attention to Batten Disease, the work of the charity BDFA (Batten Disease Family Association) and the impact on the lives of the amazing Dodkin family, Sarah Dodkin & Ben, and particularly their three little boys Finley (12), Arthur (9), and Harrison (7). Sarah is a friend and work colleague at Meadowgate Academy, where I work and before I met Sarah I knew absolutely nothing about this disease or the charity. .

The disease is extremely rare, with the strand CLN3 affecting only 30 children in the UK. Both Finlay and Harrison are affected by this life limiting and degenerative neurological disease which will not only take their sight, their memory and their physical abilities, but will ultimately take them from their parents, and their beloved brother Arthur, and far too soon.

The work the BDFA does for affected families is vital and is the only support available to them, so desperately needs supporting.

Running a half marathon is nothing in comparison to what these families have to go through on a day to day basis.

If you can help support I would be so grateful. A spare £1 some loose change will all go towards making a difference.

Thank you

❤️
