Having personally struggled to get active in my teens, haunted by self-doubt and the belief that I'd never be able to run any significant distance, I have decided to challenge myself to run a half marathon on behalf of the Sweaty Betty Foundation to help them in their mission to encourage and empower girls from any background to get active. I am running this marathon, along with many of my colleagues, to tell my 13 year old self that she can run, that she does not have to hide or shy away from physical activity and that she can do anything she puts her mind to. The Sweaty Betty Foundation was launched in March 2021 with the support of our partner and funder, Sweaty Betty, the activewear brand for women. Our vision is a world where every woman and girl is active, healthy and happy and our mission is to empower women and girls from every background to get active, and stay active for life. The Foundations focus for the first few years will be supporting girls aged 10-18 to try new activities at school, at home and in their communities, so that they can discover the ways they love to get active. Over 100 members of Team Sweaty Betty are excited to be running the Royal Parks Half Marathon on 9th October 2022, a 21km run that spans across London's world famous landmarks. As a collective team we have a goal to raise £15,000 for the Sweaty Betty Foundation to help continue the amazing work they do to empower all girls and women through fitness and beyond.
