£1000 broken fantastic
Most of you will remember that I completed the London Marathon last year to raise money for the Royal Marsden on behalf of my best friend Scott who was terminally ill with cancer. On the 31 January 2012, Scott lost his battle against cancer and died.
As you can see in the pictures, Scott came in unadided to support me that day last April, shouting encouragement from various points around the course. It is hard to believe that within 9 months this cruel disease would have such an impact that he would physically become a shell of his former self.
After the race, Scott said, I was “his hero”, but the truth is he was mine. I had just run a race like thousands of others that day. Scott on the other hand was facing this disease with great courage and fortitude never once complaining about the unfairness of it all.
Running the marathon again this year is the least I can do to honour his memory. I have chosen Cancer Research UK, as we need to find a cure to this disease and they are fighting cancer on all fronts, finding new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat it to save more lives.
This cause is obviously very personal to me, but I doubt there will not be a person who visits this site who hasn't been touched by cancer in their own lives. Most of you will know someone who has suffered from cancer. It is a cruel disease that appears to becoming more prevalent. We have to beat it. For that reason, I urge you to dig deep and donate now.
