Story

Monday 23rd September 2019

Well after almost 2 years of preparation,  The Second Chargers yesterday completed the gruelling Oxfam Trailwalker 100km challenge. This event is truly life changing and whether completed or not, teaches you about yourself and those who join you.. I chose a truly amazing team.

To date, we have raised £7,404 from 144 kind donors. If you haven’t got around to sponsoring us there is still time.

Updated 5/7/19

Eleven weeks today Buster, Paul, Paul and I will embark of the greatest personal challenge of our lives. The Oxfam Trailwalker 2019 is a 100km trek across the South Downs, which must be completed in less than 30 hours. Please read our story below and if you feel you can contribute to our amazing total, that would be amazing .. thank you.

update 15/7/18

Event Postponed due to severe weather conditions. - So this should have been the update announcing that we’d completed the 100km Trailwalker 2018.

As you may know, the event was cancelled on Thursday afternoon by Oxfam, on the advice of the Queens Gurkha Regiment and the British Army authorities. Due to the dangers of severe weather conditions (high temperatures). We are frustrated but respectful of their decision.

My team are naturally devastated, particularly given the 8 months of training and preparation, the personal cost and the huge amount of sponsorship which was kindly donated; £6,831.

We are delighted however to confirm that the team has been entered in next years event and that all money donated will be directly transferred across, training for which, has already started!

On the upside our training has made us, healthier, less stressed and in my case 1.5 stone lighter than when we started training 8 months ago!

I would personally like to thank those who have helped us train or prepare for the event. We will keep you updated.

This page will stay in place until September 2019.

Thank you.

Challenge – ‘a call to someone or something to participate in a competitive situation or fight to decide who is superior in terms of ability or strength’

Well our challenge brings together a group of leaders in their professional field, who in truth know very little about one another. We will prove that with teamwork centered on a common goal, incredible things are possible.

The Challenge - Described as the UK's number one team endurance challenge, the Trailwalker is the ultimate team endurance event. From 13-15 July 2018, the challenge is to walk, jog or run 100km across the South Downs Way in under 30  hours in a team of four, with a support crew of two members to help you get to the finish line.

The Objective - The primary objective is to raise in excess of £4,000 for Oxfam and The Gurkha Welfare Trust as part of our challenge. The Gurkha Welfare Trust provide
financial, medical and development aid to Gurkha veterans, their families and communities in Nepal as well as welfare advice to the UK Gurkha Community.
Our other major objective is to complete the challenge as a team!
