It's approaching the first anniversary of Dickie's death. This time last year, we were full of hope that the recently diagnosed lung cancer was responding to treatment and we would all have lots more time together. This was not to be and on September 19th 2020, we all had to say goodbye. This is when we first came into contact with Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, who have continued to support me.

Dickie was a straight talking, independent and strong man. Never ill, loved being busy, walking the dogs and being outside - even if it was freezing cold. Known for his frugal ways with money (nothing is a bargain if you don't need it!) his love of rugby, cricket, Arsenal and a good single malt, he liked nothing more than banter with friends and work colleagues. His biggest love of all were his family and friends......and Ourson his dog! Flyball was his main hobby and he was "slightly" competitive, he loved to be involved at tournaments, helping as much as he could. He was popular on the flyball circuit, amongst his friends and in the workplace- we didn't realise just how much until his death was announced and the vast number of people who commented, and virtually attended his funeral via webcast - all sharing memories of him. We miss him so very much.

Dickie was a very positive person, selfless and modest. He believed in helping others and giving everyone a chance. This brings me to why we are walking in memory of Dickie. I have never done a Just Giving page before but I want to carry on Dickie's belief in helping others. The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation do amazing work - the only charity that is specifically for lung cancer, which is the most common cause of cancer deaths.. They have been pioneers in lung cancer research, treatments and funded the first ever Lung Cancer Specialist Nurse. They offer the most fantastic support, including bereavement counselling.

I would ask of my family and friends - if you can donate just a small amount via this page, as myself, Jason (brother), Wendy (sister in law) and Kristian (son), who is  "Team Paris", (plus dogs Ourson, Denver, Bryn and Seren) Step into Summer, walking to raise money for this charity, it would be so much appreciated.  If you could donate what what you spend on take away coffee, Dickie would love that as he never understood why you needed take away coffee when you had jars of it at home!!!
