Story
It's no secret to me or most who know me, that I'm not the most physically active (unless you count picking up my daughter's toys for the millionth time each day). I'm no gym bunny, I despise running and my poor bike hasn't seen the light of day in months... ok, years!
I work remotely and spend a lot of that time sitting in front of a laptop, so this challenge - to walk 75 miles throughout May - is something I can physically do (I hope) and is giving me the nudge I need to get a bit more active.
Age UK Norfolk's Age Friendly Communities project is a very worthwhile cause; if communities throughout Norfolk were all more age friendly, we'd see many more people in later life leading healthy, active and way more connected lives. We're all getting older, we shouldn't ignore or fear it but embrace it and work towards creating a future we all want and can benefit from :-)
Each of my grandparents benefited from support from Age UK Norfolk during their lifetime, so while I'm out racking up my 75 miles, I'll be keeping them in mind.
I'd be so grateful if you could sponsor me to complete my miles (can't back out then can I?!) Even just a pound to sponsor me for one mile will be enough to get me in my trainers and on the move!
Thank you,
Shel x

This year we are celebrating 75 years of supporting older people in Norfolk with our vital services. From launching in the post war years to being there for older people throughout the pandemic, we have remained committed to making Norfolk a great place to grow older.
Now, we want to celebrate our special anniversary by raising funds to kickstart our Age Friendly Communities project, ensuring our communities in Norfolk are places where people of all ages can live healthy and active lives.
Age-friendly communities are places where people of all ages can live healthy and active lives. These places make it possible for people to continue to stay in their homes, participate in the activities that they value, and contribute to their communities, for as long as possible.Key features of an age-friendly community include good transport, outdoor spaces, volunteering and employment opportunities, leisure and community services.
