Story

'If you ever find yourself in a position to help someone... be grateful that you are... for the almighty is answering that persons prayers
through you'. [Noumaan Ali Khan]

Peace and blessings to you all. I hope you're all keeping happy, healthy and safe.

Many of you will have already gathered where this is going, but many more won't, so here we go.

[Bismillah] You may be oblivious over what's been happening in the world recently, more so, in Turkey & Syria. For those that don't know, let me tell you.

On the 6/2/23, there were 2 consecutive earthquakes felt in Turkey & Syria. These were of a 7.8 and 7.6 magnitude.

To many of you, this may seem to just be a number, so I want to give you a comparison.

In 2021, there was an earthquake in Melbourne, Australia in which some minor damage was caused across the city. This was of a 5.9 magnitude. I believe there were no deaths or casualties from that.

Did you know, that the 7.8 magnitude one in Turkey was 708 times stronger than the one in Australia?

There was another 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Pakistan in 2013. This killed 825 people.

I could talk all day long about magnitudes, but the potential damage of an earthquake depends on far more than its magnitude, with the population density of a given area as well as the shallowness of the epicenter both contributing to the level of devastation, with a shallower quake holding the potential for more damage. Well this one was about 10 miles deep.

As i write this on 13/2/23 the Guardian newspaper suggests that, 36,000 people have died from this across Turkey and Syria.

The Guardian also reports that at least 1 million people are living in encampments, and a further 5.3 million people have been
living on the streets rendered homeless because of this, sleeping in minus temperature conditions.

Man - that's a big number.

But what can WE do? Honestly speaking, not much as individuals, but collectively, and as a global humanitarian family, we could do so much more.

So here is my story, here is my bit to help. A thought crossed my mind whilst at work today. A colleague told me, 'lets do a 5 mile charity walk to raise money for the earthquake'. This hit a sentiment - so I immediately accepted.

But god loves a trier, So I upped the distance by like 500%.

[Inshallah] I intend to walk the distance of a marathon, so that's 26.2 miles in one day within the first week of May 2023. Exact date to be confirmed.

All monies raised will go directly to providing support for those affected across Turkey and Syria.

This fundraiser will also be Zakat eligible. If Zakat, please write 'ZAKAT' in the comments/description

Anything you donate, I guarantee you, will save some ones life. That is the kind of conscience we want don't we?

If you're able to donate [however small], I would be grateful. Please also share, and spread the word.

Much love

Shahinoor
